Hair Pieces~!

I love this particular blog because it deals with all of my crafting nutjobs. I don't post much on here because I don't put away a lot of time to do crafty things so the few posts I do put up I treasure. Not like my wedding blog which was a dumping ground/organizer/hyperhyper binder.

Anyway, I looked through my friend Melissa's engagement pics and I thought the photog did a pretty good job. M told me Crystal B.(yeah, how confusing!) did a complimentary session. I contacted her through facebook telling her I thought she did a really good job, especially with the vintage filters. I asked if she would be willing to do a TF shoot- she photographs, I design her some flyers. She agreed and offered to find some models. I said I would only need 2 and I swear, once she posted a status update looking for 2 models, she already booked 2 within minutes. I asked to do the shoot 3 weeks from when I asked to give me time to work on them. The truth is, I need mini goals to get me where I'm at. If I didn't have a goal, I'd just be making them without a dream photoshoot. I need these pieces maximized to their potential!!!

This is my fave so far of Kimber- the contrast is stunning. Apparently the second Crystal Belle posted that update, Kimber didn't hesitate to join us. She even called in sick. 3 weeks ahead. That, my friend, is dedication. And flattery. SWOON!!!!

This one is of Jenni.

I stinkin' loved the styling aspect of it. Yeah, yeah, pics are awesome, but I've never been in a full on process! With the exception of my attempt w/Hanh(see previous posts), this was awesome. Kim was a beast- she brought in 20 lbs of jewelry for me to look through and like 7 outfits, all pure perfect Anthropologie/Free People love. Then we threw in some funky shoes.

Me: Jenni, try this on. *squints* Uh, you need to look weirder. Put on your funky shoes.

You see, eclectic is what I'm going for. SWOOSH!

Stampington's Magazines

 *lovely
Finding creative uses for old items is nothing new to artists, but the spirit of preserving the planet is more important than ever before and GreenCraft Magazine is here to honor and inspire those who find artistic applications for normally discarded resources. GreenCraft will provide ideas for repurposing trash to treasure by showcasing projects where waste is repurposed into ecologically chic creations. So … have you found a use for cardboard rolls left over from paper towels? Have you cut up an old T-shirt and knitted it into a purse? Have you taken a burned-out light bulb and made it into a beautiful flower vase? Have you transformed old board games into notebooks? Then we want to hear from you! Submit your recycled, reused and repurposed items to GreenCraft Magazine today!
Deadline for artwork to be received: Semi-Annually every September 15 & March 15

Tulling Around

Tulle is a beautiful fabric that can add instant femininity and whimsy. Whether you wear yours as an under layer or in a wrap or on a headband, we want to see you incorporate this light and misty material into your altered look. Nothing says couture like the lift you get with tulle, so think outside the box and ballerinas and incorporate this romantic look into sophisticated styles. Use tulle as your altered tool of choice. For added inspiration see Bonzie’s dress or the Totally Cool Tulle Hoodie in the Winter 2010 issue of Altered Couture. DEADLINE: September 15, 2010

 *Stuffed Phuglies, of course!
Be a part of the fastest growing movement in the crafting word: the softie movement. Published twice a year, Stuffed is 144 pages of fun and whimsical soft dolls, accompanied by technique articles and a large gallery section. Felt monsters, crocheted food, fabric pirates … we’re looking for softies that show the heart and soul of plush art while demonstrating artistic touches. Deadline for the January issue is August 15th and February 15th for the July issue.
 *Aprons and PILLOWS
You are cordially invited to submit artwork to be considered for this special publication showcasing handcrafted items to decorate the home. A Somerset Home will feature items from every room in the home – from the bedroom, the kids’ room and the bathroom, to the kitchen and the living room. And don’t forget the backyard and the front porch! We are looking for a variety of items including but not limited to: embellished pillows, wall art, hooked rugs, altered lamp shades, quilts, table top items, aprons, embellished chandeliers, garlands for the mantle, decorations for the front door, slipcovers, and more! Deadline for artwork to be received: Annually every March 15th.

HAIR-RAISING ACCESSORIES * Entwined Hair pieces of course!!
Hair accessories are all the rage these days, and for good reason — they're relatively simple accessories that can add instant pizzazz and style to any outfit. For this challenge, we want you to try your hand at making your own accessories. Clips, barrettes, headbands, hair scarves — the only limit is your imagination. The great part is there is no right answer, so you can infuse your own personal style and wearable art taste into your own one-of-a-kind hair accessory. Create something perfect for dressing up your locks, and send it our way for possible inclusion in the May/June 2011 issue.
Deadline: We must receive your artwork by December 15, 2010

Being Published

While perusing the magazine aisle of Barnes and Nobles, two very fugly stuffed bunnies were on the cover of Stuffed, a magazine about handmade stuffed creatures.

NO FRIGGIN WAY, JACOB.

Skimming through the magazine, I was thrilled to find a publication that suited my Phuglies so flippin well. It was as if Stampington & Co. made a magazine just for my Phuglies.

I'm submitting. I'm a cutting it super close so I have to have it mailed out Priority on Wednesday to have it in by August 15.

GENERAL ARTWORK SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All artwork must arrive at our offices on or before the published deadlines. We prefer submissions of original art. If original art is not available, our next preference is hi-res digital images (300 dpi at 8½" x 10"). If hi-res digital images are not available, we will very rarely consider professional-quality transparencies or color slides. Color-copy submissions are not accepted.
All artwork must be identified with the artist’s name, address, e-mail and phone number clearly printed on a label attached to each sample. As artwork often gets separated from instructions during our selection process, we ask that you also inscribe your name and address somewhere on each piece of art. If you desire acknowledgment of artwork receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped postcard.

If the artwork is three-dimensional, please attach your identification with a removable string, or pack the sample in a plastic bag with your identification. Artwork without proper identification will not be considered for publication.

Depending on the publication, concise yet thorough instructions must accompany each art sample. Attach individual sample instructions to each piece of artwork and include credits for art stamp images used, as well as any other products of note. If you are able, please keep an electronic version of your instructions, as you may be requested to send those in if your work is selected for publication.
Please send submissions to:
(Name of Magazine Title)
22992 Mill Creek, Suite B
Laguna Hills, CA 92653

ARTWORK MANAGEMENT POLICY
Due to the large volume of artwork we receive, Somerset Studio will return only those submissions accompanied by sufficient postage in the form of cash, check or money order made out to Stampington & Company. We can not offer delivery confirmation; however, we are happy to put insurance on the submission. If you wish to have your artwork insured for the return journey, please include sufficient funds and indicate your preference in a postcard or letter enclosed with your submission.

HOLLAR!

Talked to Linda about some marketing strategies. Basically utilize the guerilla marketing sources. I personally think that form of advertising is the most effective, at least to me since it is unconventional. I say the best advertising is free because then people are seeing the product as a benefit as opposed to us fighting for it.
Description:
